Mark Jamra is a type designer and Professor of Graphic Design at Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. He has designed and produced typefaces for almost 35 years and is the founder of TypeCulture, a digital type foundry and academic resource. Mark is also a founding partner of JamraPatel, a studio concentrating on non-Latin type design.
Mark received his BFA in graphic design at Kent State University and completed his graduate studies in 1983 at the School of Design in Basel, Switzerland. He has lectured extensively, published essays on type and typography, and taught letterform design and history at the Hamburg University of Applied Arts and Sciences and the Polytechnic in Kiel. He has been a typographic consultant to the Hewlett-Packard Research Laboratories in Bristol, England and for URW Software & Type GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. Mark has served on the SOTA board and the ATypI board of directors.
